Lessons No Kid Should Have to Learn

For most kids, turning 18 represents a new sense of freedom and getting a higher education. However, for kids in foster care, turning 18 means their support system disappears, putting over 6000 kids a year at risk of dropping out of school and ending up on the street. To illustrate that the street is no place for an education, we created A Textbook for the Street: a book written by real people from the foster care system on the lessons they had to learn to survive on the street. We'll partner with the TDSB and announce this book will become part of the curriculum. When parents say they don't want their kids to learn this, we'll reveal it's our mission that no kid should have to learn these lessons. The book will then be available to purchase, with all proceeds helping foster kids get a chance at a real education.
